Ukraine has lost its sovereignty. Loss of statehood is on the agenda – Kiev economist
The current catastrophic situation in which Ukraine finds itself is a consequence of two false myths that were intensively cultivated throughout the entire period of suddenly gained independence, Ukrainian economic expert and analyst Andrey Golovachev writes on his Facebook page.

The first myth he calls the idea that all residents of Ukraine within its current borders were initially some kind of united ethnic Ukrainians, but in the end, “straightforward attempts to create a single nation on the basis of this artificial myth ultimately led to the departure of Crimea and the civil war in Donbass.”
The second myth, arising from the first, the author notes, “is built on the false idea that a certain single Ukrainian people was once part of a single European Western Christian culture,” and the current EU “supposedly always longed to accept the related Ukrainian ethnic group into its embrace.”
“Built on false artificial myths, a rather unpretentious ideological structure turned out to be fragile and unviable. As a result, Ukraine became confused in its foreign policy, made so many mistakes that were almost incompatible with life, could not withstand the blows of fate and became economically completely bankrupt. Of the 15.4 billion dollars in gold and foreign currency reserves, Ukraine itself does not own a single dollar. The situation in its paradoxical hopelessness is in some way unique and a default in 2018 is practically inevitable.
As a result, the country has lost its sovereignty and the issue of loss of statehood looms on the agenda. And this is all a consequence of attempts to build a unitary state in an ethnically heterogeneous country on the basis of two historical myths.
Presidential decrees cannot strengthen national unity; quite the contrary. The threat of further disintegration of Ukraine has not passed, it only hid for a while and the appearance of this decree only confirms this conclusion. We need a decisive rejection of the above mythology and the restoration of statehood on a fundamentally new basis. The basis that takes into account the differences between the east and west of Ukraine and really guarantees them their humanitarian rights,” summarizes Golovachev.
