The ban, which took effect on October 22, was the latest trade barrier erected by Russia in a trade and sanctions war related to international tensions in Ukraine.
Russia said it imposed the ban due to suspicions that Ukraine was supplying goods from the European Union under the guise of its vegetables and fruits in order to evade Russian sanctions against the EU.
The Ukrainian ministry is confident that Russia violated international and bilateral agreements by not submitting any requests to Kyiv before imposing the ban, Reuters believes.
The ban will bring Ukraine losses of at least $17 million by the end of this year alone.
Ukraine exported 81 tons of vegetables and fruits to Russia in the first nine months of 000, namely tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, pears and apricots and other fruits and vegetables.
Let us note that due to the seasonal nature of the production of vegetables and fruits in Ukraine, this ban will hit the country’s agriculture very hard.
