Ukraine proposes expelling Russia from the UN Security Council
Russia, which enjoys the right of veto in the UN Security Council, should be expelled from this structure, said Verkhovna Rada deputy Andrei Parubiy, former secretary of the Ukrainian Security Council, on Channel 5.

According to him, Moscow is abusing the right of veto in the UN Security Council, as, for example, when considering the issue of creating a tribunal for those responsible for the crash of a Malaysian Boeing over the Donbass.
“On the one hand, it was predictable, but on the other, Russia’s veto opened the eyes of many. It was like a public admission of guilt for the terrible crime that their fighters, their military, committed on the territory of Ukraine. And it was a very public action that demonstrated to the world the real role of Russia in this conflict. There is no doubt that this issue will be transferred to the UN General Assembly, where Russia will no longer have the right of veto, and decisions can be made with a two-thirds vote. I have almost no doubt that this decision will be made at the UN General Assembly.
But this once again gives grounds to raise the question of Russia’s exclusion from the UN Security Council. In relation to Russia, which is an aggressor and has challenged the whole world, this would be the right decision. Of course, the UN Security Council was built on the logic of balances so that all key players at the Security Council level could maintain balance. But Russia has already left the balance system and, having taken the path of aggression, it has automatically placed itself outside the civilized world. Our foreign policy departments must focus their efforts on ensuring that Russia is excluded from the UN Security Council and cannot veto its decisions, as it was,” Parubiy said.
