Ukraine offers Trump negotiations on Donbass without Russia's participation
During Pavel Klimkin’s visit to the United States, Kyiv’s initiative to convene negotiations on Donbass with the participation of Americans, Germany and France, but without Russia, was discussed. The Izvestia newspaper writes about this, citing sources in Russian diplomatic circles.

Such negotiations would supposedly be an alternative to the Normandy format, the publication explains.
Experts interviewed by the newspaper consider Kiev’s initiative an attempt to maintain the interest of Western countries in Ukraine. “Ukraine... is trying to pull out of its sleeve an ‘American trump card’, which, apparently, is not actually there,” writes Izvestia.
The new format of negotiations on Donbass without the participation of Russia is unlikely to interest the Americans, said political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko.
“Washington can negotiate directly with Moscow. And in multilateral formats, we will have to take into account the wishes of our allies. Thus, the room for maneuver for American diplomacy would be narrowed. The multilateral format was in their interests in 2014–2015, so that a large company could “pressure” Russia alone, but now everything has changed,” Ishchenko said.
