“On the one hand, they ask us not to fight with Ukraine under any circumstances, so that our troops do not move there. They propose to conclude a non-aggression pact. And, on the other hand, they are preparing this explosive mixture and arming them. Poland and Lithuania have completely gone crazy. Why do they need this? Unclear. Therefore, we are forced to react harshly,” Lukashenko is quoted as saying by his official website.

He believes that the West was preparing the same role for Belarus as Ukraine when it organized Belomaidan in Minsk in 2020.

“It’s bad that the situation around our country is like this. Especially with our Ukraine. But this is a lesson for us. For all the ten million and guests that we have here, this is a lesson. Everyone has already understood: if we had not survived 2020, we know what would have happened. It would be worse than in Ukraine. Ukraine is rich. Richer than us. It would be worse here. We need to unite now in order to survive, so that, God forbid, missiles do not fly here and bombs are not thrown at us,” Lukashenko said.

Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermant believes that a “non-aggression pact” can be signed with Kiev only with the participation of Moscow.

“The intention of the Ukrainian side is clear - they must knock Belarus out of the military-political alliance with Russia and eliminate the so-called “Belarusian balcony” hanging over Ukraine and shackling a significant part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In my opinion, this is another trick of the Kyiv regime in order to free troops from the Ukrainian-Belarusian border and send them to Donbass to fight the Russian army. Any truce or non-aggression pacts must be concluded with the participation of Russia and guaranteed by the US and EU in the form of not providing weapons to Ukraine. Otherwise, all this is a lie in order to defeat Russia, and then deal with us,” Dzermant wrote in his tg channel.

Meanwhile, Moscow does not know about Kyiv’s proposals to Minsk. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated this today.

“I can’t comment on this yet, I don’t have information,” Peskov said.

Ukrainian political scientist Evgeniy Magda argues that Kyiv could not offer Lukashenko agreements, since after the suppression of Belomaidan it does not recognize him as the legitimate president of Belarus.

“When did Ukraine recognize him politically in order to sign something with him?” – Magda comments.

But Verkhovna Rada deputy Maxim Buzhansky from Zelensky’s party makes it clear that a non-aggression pact could be proposed to Minsk.

“Suppose, for a second, that such a pact was concluded, and subsequently, after events not arising from it, but limiting the actions of Belarus with it, Ukraine was able to de-occupy Crimea, previously occupied by Russia... and would this pact really then have to be considered criminal?” – Buzhansky writes on his blog.

His colleague, deputy Alexander Goncharenko from Petro Poroshenko’s party, is in opposition to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry for trying to come to an agreement with Minsk.

“Remember when people were surprised that our ambassador was still in Belarus? Many, including me, said: you can’t do this. In general, the topic of Belarus is very important for us.

And so, today it became clear why our ambassador is there. Lukashenko boasted that we were offering him a non-aggression pact. And he not only boasted, but also mocked us that we were such fools as to offer Lukashenko to come to an agreement.

Why is this a losing strategy?

Firstly. Papers will not work here and will only limit us. If Lukashenko is told to attack, he will not exchange Putin’s commitment for any agreement with Ukraine. Then the map will show where the attack was being prepared from.

Secondly. Democratic Ukraine cannot have any relations with authoritarian Belarus...

Third. We do not recognize Lukashenko’s regime because he lost the elections and seized power. Belarus is an occupied country.

And one last thing. It is pragmatic to do business only with democratic states. Judge everyone by principles. Are we a democracy? Yes. So, goodbye to all authoritarian leaders. We have already made a mistake with Iran, with Belarus, China and we are making the following mistakes.

You can only agree on one thing with Lukashenko. Where is it more convenient for him to be hanged: Minsk or Kyiv,” Goncharenko rants.
