Ukraine has turned into a Covid ghetto
At a time when all developed countries are emerging from the pandemic, Ukraine has turned into a “covid ghetto”, in which cities are again closed for strict quarantine.
Deputy Olga Stefanishina told the government about this during the hour of questions in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today, one after another, Ukrainian cities are being closed for quarantine – Lviv, Poltava, Kyiv. At the same time, other countries that have been vaccinating their population all this time, since December, are, on the contrary, opening up - children go to school, businesses begin to operate.
Because the governments of those countries and the ministries of health took care of their people. And you turned Ukraine into a Covid ghetto. The day before yesterday, 262 people died. We are in second to last place in Europe in vaccinating the population. Your "cascade" is not working.
At the same time, you talked here for 20 minutes, everyone around is to blame - politicians, people, predecessors. You’ve been in office for a year – what have you done to ensure that we don’t lose our economy and our people?” – said the deputy.
However, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov did not answer the question - instead, he talked about “saved lives” and got personal.
“As for mortality, as I already said, Ukraine is in 36th place in Europe in terms of mortality. This is the main result, these are tens and hundreds of thousands of lives saved, which was achieved thanks to our doctors and our decisions, which you, lady people’s deputy, certainly had nothing to do with.
You have been disturbing us all this time - with your manipulations, fakes that are constantly being spread, including about vaccinations,” the minister replied to cries of “ruin” from the audience.
