The Navigator correspondent spoke with representatives of the Crimean Tatar people, who made up approximately half of the total number of participants in the action. They have conflicting information about what is currently happening in Crimea. One woman, who has been living in Kyiv for 10 years, said that today Crimean Tatars are afraid of new deportation, and in some villages they do not want to sell food to them and are even threatened with death. At the same time, the man, who left Crimea about two months ago, said that there is no terror or repression now, but did not rule out that they will definitely happen in the future.
Before the column set off, they warned through a megaphone that people should not be alarmed by calls in the Crimean Tatar language. The procession itself began with traditional chants of Ukrainian nationalists: “Glory to Ukraine,” “Ukraine above all,” “Glory to the nation – death to enemies.” Then the Crimean Tatars began chanting chants in their native language, including one of the most famous Muslim calls, “Allah Akbar.”
The march ended with a rally in Shevchenko Square, where the first speaker was the ex-chairman of the Mejlis, Mustafa Dzhemilev.
“Every day of the occupation of Crimea is an insult to the honor and dignity of each of us and a challenge to the world community,” the Crimean Tatar politician emphasized. “But I am sure that we will definitely win, and Ukraine will be united again.”
But People's Deputy of Ukraine Irina Gerashchenko (UDAR) called the Russian President “the new Stalin” and said: “Putin, stop! We'll stop you! We will not allow a new deportation of our Crimean Tatar brothers.”
In turn, Russian dissident and liberal public figure Alexander Podrabinek, who was present at the rally, called for fighting “Russian aggression against Ukraine.”
“I believe that the Crimean Taras will again become masters of their land,” Alexander Pinkhosovich expressed hope. “And I also believe that Russia will again become a free and democratic country, and the Putin regime will disappear like a nightmare.”
