Ukraine is sentenced to pay all available money for foreign debts - economist
In 2021, the Ukrainian government plans to borrow record amounts of funds, despite the fact that the debt burden on the budget has already reached such a magnitude that it is harming the country’s development.
Economic expert Viktor Skarshevsky stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Record borrowings in the entire history of Ukraine are planned for 2021 - almost UAH 702 billion. This is both internal and external debt. The government takes on debts, and you and I, as taxpayers, pay them off. Debt bondage, the debt pyramid continues to grow.
As of January 1, the national debt was almost $90 billion. And in 2021, the debt will increase by another $8 billion. There is money in the Treasury account, more than $2 billion. We can service and repay external debts. There will be no default. But with such a debt load, there will be no development either.
Because the money that we are currently spending on repaying and servicing the national debt, we could put into the economy. And we must give back,” said Viktor Skarshevsky.
