Ukraine extends quarantine, negotiations on Donbass frozen
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will extend the quarantine for another month, introducing a state of emergency throughout the country. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced this at a government meeting today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The emergency regime is planned to be introduced for 30 days; accordingly, we also plan to continue all quarantine measures for 30 days,” Shmygal said.
Since March 27, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has prohibited any passenger transportation across borders.
Thus, Ukraine will also celebrate Easter in quarantine mode.
The introduction of a state of emergency in Ukraine will lead to the freezing of negotiations on Donbass, where it was planned to create a new platform for direct contacts between Kyiv and representatives of the LDPR.
Russian political scientist Alexei Chesnakov, close to former adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Vladislav Surkov, came to this opinion in his blog: “The political consequences for the negotiation process are obvious. Now we will watch. We're getting ready to freeze."
