Ukrainian energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky announced this at a press conference in Kiev, noting that both public and private structures could not accumulate reserves of imported anthracite coal from South Africa and Australia due to the low throughput of Ukrainian ports, and therefore The main producer of coal remains the Donbass territories not controlled by Kyiv.
“Therefore, it is not that there is a dependence, but this production chain continues to exist today,” the expert emphasized. – Nobody canceled our seven thermal power plants located in the territory controlled by Ukraine and operating on the anthracite group. This is half of Ukrainian stations. We will be forced to purchase coal from mines in uncontrolled territories and insure ourselves through imports.”
“At the same time, coal producers are monitoring the situation and are beginning to understand that we are becoming very dependent on imports, and therefore prices for the anthracite group are going up,” Zemlyansky added. – Today, problems have already begun in the Lviv-Volyn coal basin. We are already faced with the question of the need for coal and gas groups, because the mines of Lvovsko-Volynskoe today are not coping with the task of providing the necessary volume for gas groups. It’s even gotten to this point.”
