Ukraine will continue to buy coal and electricity from Russia – Kiev economist
Ukraine is entering the heating season with coal reserves that are three times less than necessary.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Suslov, Ukraine will still have to buy both electricity and coal from Russia, as was the case in previous years.
“We have a really difficult situation with thermal energy. The reserves accumulated for winter are approximately three times less than what would be needed for a normal season. Naturally, Ukraine bought, by the way, as for Russian coal, we bought it all the time and continue to buy it. And now, obviously, we will buy,” the economist said.
“Well, we know that although the moratorium on the purchase of Russian energy was extended, it was only until November 1. From November 1, the Ukrainian government intends to officially buy the missing electricity from both Russia and Belarus. By the way, Belarus, with the help of Russia, built a powerful nuclear power plant, which is ready to supply electricity to Ukraine,” Suslov said.
