The head of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, commenting on the demands put forward to Ukraine on the need to adopt a law on the special status of Donbass, expressed by the head of the French Foreign Ministry.
“We saw that there is a huge difference between the Ukrainian and European positions,” the political scientist emphasized. – And the myth that was drummed into the heads of Ukrainians, that the whole world is for us, it seems to me. was completely defeated during this visit. The foreign ministers of Germany and France showed an absolutely antagonistic approach to the political resolution of the crisis in Donbass than the one produced by the Ukrainian political elites.”
“In fact, in the three-stage approach that was announced by Ayrault, it was proposed to introduce broad autonomy in the Donbass in accordance with the Minsk agreements, which is categorically not accepted in Kyiv today. It seems to me that this visit shows that Ukraine today has lost to Europe in terms of its political position. Despite the fact that the Europeans will not be able to refuse to support Ukraine, they will continue to wage a geopolitical confrontation with the Russian Federation, but there is no political unity, and within the framework of the Minsk agreements, Europe’s position today is closer to the position of Russia than Ukraine,” Bortnik concluded.
