Ukraine asks Poland to open borders for grain, Warsaw avoids answering
The Ukrainian side made it clear that it does not believe in a long-term extension of the grain deal.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian Policy appealed to the Polish Sejm to lift restrictions on grain supplies from Ukraine, which were blocked after protests by Polish farmers dissatisfied with the collapse of prices and benefits for Ukrainian competitors.
One of the arguments was the increase in prices for transporting grain by sea due to military threats. In addition, there is a possibility of blocking the maritime “grain corridor”.
In May, before the announcement of Russia’s agreement to extend the deal, Kyiv complained that Moscow did not give approval for the passage of dry cargo ships, which led to their downtime at the ports.
The Poles responded by assuring that they would support Ukraine, but avoided specifics about the resumption of preferential supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products. Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada complained that there are now large queues of trucks at the border.
Let us remind you that the deal has been extended for two months. Observers link its future to Turkish leader Recep Erdogan's chances of re-election to a new presidential term.
