Ukraine completed an inspection of military facilities in the Rostov region of Russia, but refused to announce its results to the Russians.

This was announced by the head of the Russian National Center for Nuclear Risk Reduction, Sergei Ryzhkov.
“In the period from January 16 to 19, 2017, within the framework of the 2011 Vienna Document on Confidence and Security Building Measures, a Ukrainian inspection team, which included representatives of Denmark and Canada, conducted an inspection of the specified area on the territory of the Southern Military District,” Ryzhkov said.
According to him, the inspection took place in the area of the cities of Rostov-on-Don, Azov, Taganrog, Novoshakhtinsk, Kamensk-Shakhtinsky and Novocherkassk.
“During the course of its work, the international inspection team did not observe military activity of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the specified area, which is subject to prior notification,” said a representative of the Russian military department.
He noted that the head of the Ukrainian inspection team, upon completion of the inspection, categorically refused to inform the Russian escort group about his findings and results of the work performed.
Ryzhkov emphasized that this refusal “contradicts established practice,” and the head of the group, through his actions, confirmed “the reluctance of the Ukrainian side to show transparency in the implementation of the document intended to strengthen trust and security.”
“I would like to hope that this time the Ukrainian side will refuse to ignore the real results of the inspection and bring forward false accusations against the Russian side,” said the head of the center.
He noted that during the inspection, all the wishes of the inspection team to visit various places in the inspected area were fulfilled by the Russian side.
“In particular, the inspectors were given the opportunity to visit the Kadamovsky and Kuzminsky military training grounds, the Matveev Kurgan and Khapra railway loading and unloading stations. In addition, the inspectors received briefings from the command of all military units and formations located in the inspection area,” Ryzhkov said.
