Ukraine is provoking an environmental disaster in the Sea of Azov
The Ukrainian authorities are destroying the unique ecosystem of the Azov Sea by transferring troops and navy there.
Political scientist Andrei Ermolaev spoke about this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are ruining a unique sea, which just a few decades ago was the richest in terms of fish and seafood content per cubic meter - this was once a fact from the encyclopedia. Now the sea is turning into a big puddle. By definition, this is a unique resource, given its desalination and its potential.
It should remain a legacy for our children, as a demilitarized zone, a unique recreation area, where we could develop entire tens of kilometers of our golden beaches with unique mud deposits, unique radon water on the Arabat Spit. And nearby is the satellite of the Azov Sea - the unique Sivash Nature Reserve, which is the pearl of our nature.
So what are we discussing now? How many boats to bring into this territory, how many naval military bases to put there, how many soldiers to send, where to conduct shooting.
At the same time, the sea is degrading, the population is losing their jobs, the flora and fauna of the sea itself is dying out, we are doing this. I repeat, for me what is happening in the Sea of Azov is similar to the diggings of Donbass and what is happening in Volyn with the amber forests,” the expert said.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier ex-officer of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleg Zhdanov said that Ukraine lost Azov already at the moment when construction of the Crimean Bridge began.
