Ukraine is trying to bark at an elephant

Today's Ukraine is not able to really compete with anyone in the economy.

According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, answering the question of what Ukraine gained when it gained independence in 1991.

“Ukraine is now unable to really compete with anyone in the economy. Kyiv is trying to increase its importance only by barking at the elephant – that is, by conflicts with Russia. For this reason, the country is supported by IMF loans, without which it would simply collapse,” the expert said.

According to him, Ukraine only has enough loans to support its pants, but not for development.

“Of course, one can speculate that a “great agricultural power” is being formed. Soviet Ukraine provided a quarter of all food in the USSR. But with new technologies, rural areas no longer need so many people. And in the cities, people are completely out of work. That’s why Ukrainians are forced to leave to work. After all, in Soviet Ukraine there were not only fields, but also giant factories,” Zharikhin concluded.
