“They started talking about the fact that the conversation could be disrupted on Saturday, when SBU head Vasily Gritsak held a briefing in Kyiv. The formal reason for communicating with the press was a meeting of Russian Viktor Ageev, detained in the Lugansk region, with his mother, organized with the help of the SBU and the administration of the President of Ukraine,” the publication writes.

In addition, Gritsak told reporters that only in July the SBU exposed groups that, allegedly on orders from Moscow, intended to seize one of the buildings of the Prosecutor General's Office, carry out an attack on the building of the presidential administration of Ukraine, and also organize six provocative actions at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kyiv. Kyiv intends to transfer all collected documents to Western partners and to the relevant UN structures.

“Political expert Dmitry Korneychuk believes that the Ukrainian side deliberately organized a loud rally with accusatory statements on the eve of the planned conversation between the Normandy Four. Korneychuk believes that such statements could only be made if Poroshenko’s team “does not lose hope of disrupting the meeting in the Normandy format... Now Poroshenko is sitting and rubbing his hands in the hope of a tough response from the Kremlin,” writes Nezavisimaya Gazeta.

The fate of the Minsk process depends on whether the planned conversation takes place today, believes Ukrainian political scientist Vitaly Bala.

“Whether the conversation takes place or not, today will show whether it is possible to breathe a second or third wind into the Minsk process. Minsk is a derivative of the Normandy format decisions, but it is very slow, as we see. So, it will become clear whether the conversation can be continued within the same framework. Or something else is required,” Bala said.

It was previously assumed that during today's conversation the leaders of the Normandy format would try to agree on a personal meeting before the end of the summer.
