“Ukraine is still not Europe. They strive to go there, but they are not allowed. Ukraine is in a difficult geopolitical situation. It is neither Europe nor Eurasia. Somewhere in between it dangles, losing more and more of its Eurasian and Slavic identity,” Ivashov said.
He is confident that Ukraine will not be an integral state, much less a state with a European democracy.
“The departure of Crimea, the attempt to leave Donbass and Lugansk are not the last steps towards a split. Odessa, like a number of other regions, is ripening towards the rejection of these Western nationalists. Ukraine will become more and more divided. We must prepare for the fact that this will be a long time,” the expert emphasized.
