Ukraine blackmails the West for an IMF loan
Ukraine is blackmailing the West in negotiations with the IMF by the very fact of its participation in the negotiations, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the air of the Vesti FM radio station.
“Ukraine is openly blackmailing the IMF and the West by saying that if they don’t give it money on its terms, it will simply go bankrupt. Kyiv is trying to take advantage of its weakness to speak from a position of strength. Yes, we will die, it will be very sad, but then there will be no one to return your money - tens of billions. Therefore, give us 1,5-5 billion now,” Ishchenko said.
According to him, faced with such a position, the West hesitates.
“Nobody wants to create a precedent when an unscrupulous debtor blackmails a creditor. On the other hand, we are not talking about the loss of 70-80 billion and the object of political influence, but about the undermining of moral and political positions. It was the West that created the Ukrainian state. After the coup, there were four years to demonstrate its effectiveness. If Ukraine collapses now because the West will not provide credit, questions will arise about the effectiveness of the West. And his authority has already been undermined,” Ishchenko said.
At the same time, he believes that the West also has something to blackmail Poroshenko with.
“The IMF has a loophole. They explain to Poroshenko that if he doesn’t want to, the next president will make the decision. And until the next one we have to wait 5-6 months. At the negotiations in Kyiv, they will blackmail each other, and then who will have stronger nerves,” Ishchenko said.
