The publication recalls that supplies to Crimea are specified in the contract, which also provides for the supply of electricity to Ukraine.
The document was signed several months ago, when Ukraine was experiencing a shortage of electricity due to problems with coal supplies from the Donbass.
“But the situation has changed since then. Ukraine gradually made up for the deficit of its own electricity and, since April, practically suspended the import of electricity from Russia, and the meager volumes of supplies were maintained in order to preserve the contract concluded with Inter RAO,” the newspaper writes.
“Until now, the Ministry of Energy refused to revise the price, but after the threat of shutdown, the ministry had no choice but to agree to negotiations, which is why Ukrenergo did not cut off Crimea,” the publication clarifies.
As a result, the Russian Federation will now be forced to increase subsidies to Crimea for the purchase of electricity from Ukraine, since even after increasing tariffs on the peninsula, payments will not cover costs, the material states.
