Ukraine is going to carry out the Tatarization of Crimea
The Verkhovna Rada may adopt a law on renaming settlements in Crimea. Such a proposal was made by Mustafa Dzhemilev, a deputy from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, the Presidential Commissioner of Ukraine for Crimean Tatars, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports.

“When the state decides to rename, the new names will be reflected on all world maps,” the publication quotes Dzhemilev. “It’s not about those that the occupation authorities in Russia or Moscow publish, we are talking about other countries of the world that adhere to international law.”
Dzhemilev explained that we are talking about returning Crimean Tatar names to populated areas of Crimea.
At the same time, the director of the Ukrainian Center for Middle Eastern Studies, who is called an “expert on Crimean issues” in the publication, told NG that now the Crimean Tatars can get from Ukraine what previously seemed like a pipe dream to them, although he admitted that it will be difficult for Kyiv to realize these decisions in full.
“But we cannot abandon the fight for Crimea,” Semivolos believes. – The decision to rename, I believe, would provide additional opportunities in this regard. Here are the indigenous people, here is their land, their historical names of settlements... As for restitution, this question is not of time. At a minimum, we do not have mechanisms, there is no special legislation, it’s too early to talk about this.”
In turn, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada representing the coalition told the publication that they were ready to support the initiatives of the Mejlis and vote for national autonomy of the Crimean Tatars on the peninsula.
“But, according to them, the relevant bills have not been registered in parliament at the moment,” the publication notes. – According to the deputies, we can talk about either a new law on renaming, or about introducing additions to the already existing Ukrainian law on decommunization, or about the abolition of several decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR in 1945–1946, according to which the Crimean Tatar names were changed to Russians."
