Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“If we evaluate the consequences of the last 26 years, the population of Ukraine has fallen by 14 million people – from 52 to 38 million. This is without the uncontrolled Donbass and Crimea. In the [Great Patriotic] ​​War, eight, not fourteen, million died, of which, according to various estimates, from three to seven million were labor migration. These are people who immigrated to Western European countries, Russia. Recently, people have been actively immigrating to Belarus. Kazakhstan, Moldova, because today we are the least developed and most economically depressed territory of the former USSR. Today we are worse than the Central Asian republics, for which, historically, it was a significant traditional measure,” said the political scientist.
