Ukraine is becoming a global “grain appendage”
The Ukrainian government is destroying the country's wheat processing industry, and Ukrainians will buy expensive and low-quality bread.
The director of the Roma company, Sergei Tsimbalov, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The actions of our government are directly aimed at destroying flour production in Ukraine. In addition, there is a decrease in flour exports. Its peak was in 2015, we exported 450 thousand tons, today this figure has decreased by about two to three times. It is approximately 130 thousand tons.
Several years ago we tried to consider a project for deep processing of wheat. This gives higher margins, which has been proven by world practice. We had to give up on this because the government doesn’t look at it and doesn’t react at all.
And in Ukraine, rye and wheat flour from Belarus is beginning to appear, and perhaps it is flour from Russia. This situation is very alarming.
Leading flour producers in Ukraine have now reduced production by five times. This all leads to the fact that our consumers will have low-quality and expensive products, and we do not see the development of processing.
Ukraine is really starting to turn into a world grain appendage in terms of wheat,” Tsymbalov said.
Let us recall that in 2016, the then US Ambassador to Kyiv Geoffrey Pyatt said that Ukraine should become an agricultural superpower. “It must become an agricultural superpower,” the American envoy said.
In 2013, Russia offered Ukraine participation in the Customs Union, which implied the provision of preferential conditions for obtaining loans and gas supplies. However, a coup d'etat was organized in Kyiv, as a result of which a nationalist puppet regime controlled by the United States came to power.
