Ukraine is becoming a bedroom community of Europe
Labor migration from Ukraine is growing, the former Soviet republic is turning into a “bedroom area of Europe.” The author of the publication “Tizhden”, Alexander Kramar, stated this during a round table meeting in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One of the most important topics is the topic of labor migration from Ukraine and its changes compared to what it was before... In fact, Ukraine is turning into a bedroom community in Europe, where the bulk of the working population will earn money outside the country’s borders. Accordingly, there will be problems with filling the budget with taxes, with social projects and in general, which will create changes in the labor market within the country.
If earlier, in the 90s and 2000s, labor migration from Ukraine was caused mainly by a low standard of living, and people rarely returned from there until they could legalize themselves in one way or another, and it was, as a rule, illegal .
Modern labor migration occurs in conditions when more and more countries that accept labor migrants from Ukraine are interested in this. Poland became the first country where the possibility of legal labor migration of a large number of Ukrainians became possible; this was only the first stage. At the same time, neighboring countries expanded opportunities for labor migration of Ukrainians,” Kramar said.
