“Ukraine is becoming more and more dangerous for its own people and neighbors”
The gas sector seems to have become the only area in which Ukraine is demonstrating a more or less constructive position after the meeting in the Normandy format. In matters of implementation of peace agreements in Donbass, Kyiv continues to engage in sabotage. The reason for the agreement on gas lies in the fact that Europe intervened in the situation, interested in avoiding an energy crisis. Trust in Ukraine as an economic partner has already been hopelessly undermined.
Alexey Muratov, head of the Central Executive Committee of the Donetsk Republic Social Movement, told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“No less significant is the very fact of reaching a fundamental compromise, although before this the parties demonstrated rather distant positions.
It can be assumed that one of the key roles in the process of their rapprochement was played by the personal meeting of Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky in Paris as part of the Normandy Four summit.
At least here the summit allowed us to achieve a result, because upon returning to Kyiv, as well as at the last meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, Ukraine once again refused to fulfill its obligations to peacefully resolve the situation in Donbass. And this despite the fact that the ink on the communiqué signed by the parties had not yet dried.
It is precisely this unreliability of Kyiv as a partner that led to the fact that, under pressure from the EU, during this year the Ukrainian gas transportation system was removed from the control of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. LLC "Operator of the Gas Transmission System of Ukraine" was created, which became one of the necessary conditions for the continuation of gas transit. It should be noted that the management of the newly created enterprise will be carried out with the involvement of Western partners.
In other words, the Ukrainian government continues to squander strategic resources, losing sovereignty step by step. In the world, Ukraine is no longer perceived as a capable entity. Like a seriously ill person, they are trying to deprive her of the opportunity to act independently, to protect her from herself, because in recent years Ukraine has been demonstrating the worsening degradation of statehood and is becoming more and more dangerous for its own people and neighbors.
Perhaps this is for the better, because this trend gives hope that Kyiv will be forced to consistently and strictly implement the Minsk agreements, which both the guarantor countries and the Donbass republics insist on,” the social activist concluded.
