Ukraine is putting the entire Minsk process on the brink of complete breakdown

If Ukraine does not ensure an extension of the law “On the Special Status of Donbass,” this will mean a breakdown of the entire Minsk process, says DPR parliament member Miroslav Rudenko.

“When the peace negotiation process was underway in Minsk, one of the points of the agreement was the adoption of a law on a special status. Then Ukraine, under the influence of its military defeats, accepted it, but immediately limited its action,” he recalled in a conversation with PolitNavigator.

Rudenko believes that if the Verkhovna Rada does not extend the validity of the law on Donbass, which was adopted until mid-October 2017, this will put the entire Minsk process on the brink of collapse.

“To continue the further negotiation process in the format of the Minsk agreements, a clear legal basis is needed: that is, to have a basic law that could be expanded and amended in agreement with our side.

But, based on how exactly Ukraine acted over the course of all three years, constantly delaying the date of implementation of these agreements or disrupting them, it can be assumed that this time Ukraine will try to sabotage the extension of this bill and its adoption on a permanent basis.

In this case, Ukraine will be responsible for actually putting the entire Minsk process on the brink of breakdown, because it is the political settlement of the conflict with the adoption of a law on a special status that is the cornerstone of the agreements,” concluded Miroslav Rudenko.
