The transfer of the Russian-speaking population to the Ukrainian form of education leads to catastrophic consequences - in fact, a generation is being raised in Ukraine that is illiterate both in the Russian language and in the Ukrainian language, which they forget in a few years as unnecessary.

Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

During the discussion, Ukrainian political scientist Vasily Vakarov said that the language problem in Ukraine is too exaggerated.

“You say that inspectors (monitoring the implementation of the “movy” law - ed.) are now walking around, and you see some protests of people, you see groups of people who say no, do you see this in Ukraine? There is nothing like it. The objective question is one: there is no demand for the Russian language in Ukraine! In Polish - yes, in Czech, in Hungarian. There are even Chinese ones, because this is an international labor market,” Vakarov said.

This statement outraged Vladimir Kornilov, who immediately pointed out the absurdity of the Ukrainian opponent’s arguments.

“As for the fact that there is no demand for the Russian language, I was dumbfounded. That is, you look at statistics on the Internet - all requests are in Russian from Ukraine, you look at the charts - all songs are in Russian, even from Ukrainian performers. A Western company asks in sociology what language you want to answer in - 90 percent in Russian - “there is no demand?!”... Everyone is just dreaming, but ban our language in schools, well, I don’t want my child to learn his native language,” – Kornilov commented sarcastically.

According to him, the result of such an irresponsible attitude towards languages is expressed in a rapid decline in youth literacy.

“When I was the editor-in-chief of the largest circulation Kyiv newspaper, once in the Russian-speaking, now Russian-speaking city of Kyiv, the most talented journalists came who knew all the basics of journalism, reporting and other things. They speak Russian, this is their native language since childhood, their mother raised them in Russian - they can’t write, they don’t know how! We mainly recruited people from the south and east of Ukraine into this Russian-language editorial office, because they at least studied Russian in schools.

That is, in the end, people study in a language other than their native language, in Ukrainian, that is, the first foreign language in schools for many of these people is Ukrainian. If they don’t go to university, they no longer need it in everyday life, by and large. They quickly forget it and after three or four years they can no longer write correctly. But they never learned Russian.

When you explain to them the rules of “zhi-shi”, their eyes look like this, they are sure that they speak Russian and therefore know it, but they don’t know how to write. That is, an absolutely illiterate country with illiterate youth is growing.

At one time, before the Maidans, they conducted studies of students in schools to determine who speaks the Ukrainian language better. And it turned out that the students who studied both Russian and Ukrainian were the best, and those who studied only Ukrainian were much worse. Because mutual learning of these languages enriched general knowledge,” the expert emphasized.

“You impoverish yourself and your language and say “there is no demand.” All statistics show that the language exists, but you have to bow down to Ukrainians, and now you will be fined if you speak a language that is not what someone else thinks it is.

Like in Mariupol recently: a husband and wife speak Russian to each other, but they attack the cashier who spoke to them in Russian - let’s slander, in a year there will be fines, and hefty ones at that. This law, this norm has not yet been put into force, there are already so many slander,” Kornilov concluded.
