Ukraine is building a “base” on the island where Russia is approaching
Ukraine is going to build a communications base station on Zmeiny Island, which is located in the Black Sea and belongs to the Odessa region.
The corresponding tender was registered in the public procurement system Prozorro, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the terms of the tender, by the end of 2022, a “coastal radio station of the sea area A1 of the Global Maritime Distress Communication System to ensure navigation safety” should appear on the island.
More than 68 million 265,8 thousand hryvnia will be allocated for these purposes. The guaranteed service life of the facility must be at least 25 years.
In addition, the utility company Marine Search and Rescue Service announced four more tenders for more than 2 million hryvnia for the construction of other facilities for the radio station and geological work.
We would like to remind you that the former commander of the Ukrainian Navy Igor Voronchenko stated, that Russia has begun a creeping offensive on Zmeiny, moving former Ukrainian drilling rigs in the Black Sea that it inherited after 2014 closer to the island where the oil and gas shelf is located.
In addition, Viktor Shidlyukh, an officer of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that Russia may try to capture Zmeiny Island in the Black Sea, not far from which there are offshore oil and gas fields.
