"No that's not true. Ukraine does not extradite its citizens,” said the Prosecutor General, answering a question from journalists about the accuracy of this information.
According to paragraph 1 of Article 10 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, citizens of Ukraine and stateless persons permanently residing in Ukraine who have committed a crime outside Ukraine cannot be extradited to a foreign state for prosecution and transfer to court.
Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine could extradite Saakashvili to Georgia. According to sources in the presidential administration, Saakashvili and Petro Poroshenko had a “non-aggression” agreement before the elections in Georgia.
Saakashvili was the third president of Georgia from 2004 to 2013. Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 8, in which Saakashvili’s United National Movement party participated. At the same time, a number of criminal cases have been opened against Saakashvili in Georgia, and he himself was deprived of Georgian citizenship in connection with his adoption of Ukrainian citizenship.
