Ukraine spends 2 times more, insuring itself in case of lack of coal from Donbass
To avoid rolling blackouts in winter and to hedge against the lack of coal supplied from Donbass, the Ukrainian government ordered gas, the production of electricity with which costs twice as much as that generated from coal.

“The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decides that it is necessary to pump in an additional 2,5 billion cubic meters of gas (and without having the money for this). In order to, in the event of a lack of anthracite (which is quite probable), in winter, when the weather is cold, this gas can be used to produce the required amount of electricity so that there are no rolling blackouts.
But it is forgotten that the cost of producing electricity from gas is twice as high as from coal. Who will then cover these losses?” – Marunich said.
