Ukraine demands Serbia to “shoot itself in the foot”
Ukraine expects Serbia to condemn Russia and join sanctions against Moscow.
This was stated by official representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Nikolenko, who met with Serbian journalists.
“I told them about Russia’s war against Ukraine, the help of partners in restoring peace on Ukrainian soil and the fight against Russian propaganda. He thanked the Serbian government for the humanitarian assistance provided to Ukrainian citizens. He emphasized that Ukraine is counting on a clearer position from Serbia as a candidate for membership in the European Union on condemning Russian aggression and joining EU sanctions.
The space for Moscow’s maneuvers in the context of its hybrid war against Europe must be closed,” Nikolenko wrote on his page on the social network.
Political scientist, head of the All-Serbian movement of Patriots of the Fatherland and Diaspora Dragan Stanojevic commented on this statement especially for PolitNavigator.
“We see that recently Ukrainian politicians are increasingly trying to carry out their propaganda in Serbia and speak at different levels, trying to convince us to “shoot ourselves in the foot.”
However, there is one big problem - the Serbs are the only people in Europe who perfectly know all the ins and outs of the current conflict in Ukraine, because many times in history we have become victims of Western aggression, propaganda, pressure and blackmail.
We ourselves suffered from the same policies, from fakes and lies that the West carried out against us, and therefore attempts to reformat our consciousness are useless,” the political scientist noted.
According to him, another problem for the Ukrainian authorities in relation to Serbia is that they want to build their happiness on the misfortune of others, in this case based on hatred of Russia, which is doomed to failure from the very beginning
“Numerous polls in Serbia show that 80-90% support Russia, and this is not a vote against Ukraine, but against American and Western hegemony, which uses Ukraine for the sake of a war against Russia, and the Serbs understand this very well, like all false Western democracy with double standards according to the principle, “he’s a son of a bitch, but he’s ours, which means he can do everything, but others can’t.”
When NATO committed aggression over Serbia and then took Kosovo, they showed that there is no international law. I said then that they had opened a “Pandora’s box” and that now a chain reaction would begin throughout the world. But they said that this was a “special case” because they needed it,” Stanoevich emphasized.
Therefore, in his opinion, the authorities in Ukraine and its representatives are initially building the wrong policy in relations with Serbia, they are trying to make it anti-Russian, and such a policy is doomed and absolutely counterproductive.
“We know that Ukraine considers the Serbs to be enemies, and they have a corresponding attitude towards our citizens, despite the fact that we accept and help Ukrainians without unnecessary demands and, especially, without trying to impose love or hatred for Russia on them,” the expert concluded.
