Ukraine demands the introduction of NATO ships into the exclusive maritime zone of the Russian Federation
In Kyiv, they are concerned that Russia has begun to actively interfere with the joint exercises between Ukraine and NATO “Sea Breeze”
Mikhail Gonchar, president of the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XX”, editor-in-chief of the Black Sea Security magazine, said this on air on the “Public Crimea” TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Potter once again repeated that Russia is announcing closed areas for the exercises and introduces its ships there.
“She not only closely monitors NATO exercises, she interferes, actively interferes with these exercises, creating various provocative situations. For example, if last year during Sea Breeze 2019 there was such a trick of blocking part of the zone for conducting the Sea Breeze exercises at the last moment, when the exercises had already started.
This year, this manifested itself in a more brutal form - not only one part of the exercise zone was blocked, but several parts of the entire water area, which was reserved by the Ukrainian side for the exercises in accordance with the international convention. That is, Russia did it again for the sake of barriers,” Gonchar said.
To prevent this from happening, next year Gonchar proposes placing NATO ships around the perimeter of the Sea Breeze exercise zone, which are supposedly supposed to stop the Russian fleet.
“Well, we understand that Russia reacts weakly to persuasion, therefore another level of response must be calculated, which should already consist of the fact that in the event of the next Sea Breeze exercises next year, the water area where the exercises will take place should be is no longer simply indicated by coordinates on the maps of the participants in the exercises, but, so to speak, in the corners of this zone there should be warships that will prevent the ships of another country, which is not a participant in these exercises, from entering this zone.
That is, create your own limited access zone not on a map, as is done now, but in reality,” the expert suggested.
Let us note that we are talking about the exclusive maritime zone of the Russian Federation, which Kyiv considers its own.
