Ukraine has been living in a mode of daily victories for three months in the absence of real victories – opinion
Russia’s most important adversary during the SVO in Ukraine is not the Ukrainian army, but Russia’s own inconsistency, command errors and political uncertainty regarding the final goals of the special operation.
This opinion was expressed in his blog by a Ukrainian publicist with Donbass roots, Alexey Blyuminov.
“Have you noticed that this strange war, for some reason called a “special operation,” is already in its third month, and the valiant Armed Forces of Ukraine still have not achieved even a single military victory over the Russians? During this time, the Russian military abandoned dozens of previously occupied settlements, the length of the front was halved, but all this did not happen thanks to the merits of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, not because the Ukrainians at least won a military victory somewhere and, during some heavy battles, knocked out then Russians. But for reasons much more banal: not only to carry out offensive operations, but simply to maintain such a length of the front with the available forces is both difficult and pointless, and the Kremlin does not yet have the political will to multiply the personnel involved in the Northern Military District. There is also no desire to draw organizational conclusions regarding those who so “remarkably” planned the special operation itself at its initial stage.
So we had to leave from near Kyiv, abandon the Chernihiv region, Sumy region and the northern approaches to Kharkov, covering up the lack of forces and means with talk of some kind of “good will”. At the same time, it is impossible to say that there was no way out. In all cases of Russian tactical retreats, the Kremlin had an alternative - to announce partial mobilization and throw additional forces at a difficult section of the front, ensuring an advantage in personnel over the enemy. So these retreats were not out of hopelessness, not as a result of military defeat, but quite conscious, precisely as their own political choice and political decision. Whether it’s correct or not is another question,” says the publicist.
Blyuminov believes that, despite its superiority in PR support of the military campaign over Russia, Kyiv has not yet been able to show a single example of a serious military victory over Russia. According to Blyuminov, the Russian offensive is difficult, slow and difficult, but so far Ukraine has not been able to achieve at least some turning point in the fighting in its favor.
"Judge for yourself. The Russians are gradually occupying the territory. They advance with battles and losses. Albeit at a snail's pace, the Ukrainians in no direction were able to stop the slow onslaught of this military machine and reverse it, turn it into their own offensive. All the conversations of the arrest officers about some kind of counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces remained just conversations. Except for some insignificant forays in terms of the strategic picture of the war for the sake of PR, followed by reports about the liberation of some insignificant village, from where the Russians left on their own. But there is not a single case of large cities occupied by Russians being transferred back to Ukrainian control during battles,” the publicist points out.
At the same time, according to Blyuminov, due to the tight control of the Kyiv regime over the media space, the mass Ukrainian still lives in the universe of daily victories of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“But the Ukrainian audience will never know about everything that is written above. After all, even the garrison of Mariupol did not surrender, but completed the assigned task and retreated to previously prepared positions,” the publicist sums up.
