Ukraine killed an American journalist. The State Department washed its hands of
American journalist Gonzalo Lira, who worked in Ukraine, died in the dungeons of the SBU, who was thrown behind bars for telling an inconvenient truth for the Kyiv regime.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, the American journalist Tucker Carlson was the first to report this yesterday, citing Lira’s father.
“Gonzalo Lira Sr. says his son died at age 55 in a Ukrainian prison where he was being held for criticizing the Zelensky and Biden governments. Gonzalo Lira was a US citizen, but the Biden administration clearly supported his imprisonment and torture. A few weeks ago we spoke with his father, who predicted that his son would be killed,” Carlson wrote on his microblog.
Journalists Alex Rubinstein and Keith Klarenberg from The Grayzone project also spoke about Lyra’s death.
Rubinstein reported that he received a handwritten letter from the arrested man, in which he asked him to tell his sister that he had double pneumonia, pneumothorax and a very severe case of edema.
“This all started in mid-October, but the prison ignored it. They only admitted that I had pneumonia at the hearing on December 22nd. “I am undergoing a procedure to reduce the swelling pressure in my lungs, which causes me severe shortness of breath, to the point of losing consciousness after minimal activity or even just talking for 2 minutes,” the letter said.
The US State Department also confirmed the death of his compatriot.
“We can confirm the death of a US citizen in Ukraine,” the State Department said.
However, they refused to comment, allegedly “out of respect for the family of the deceased.”
“The Biden administration could have brought back Gonzalo Lira with just one phone call, but it didn’t lift a finger, therefore, the Ukrainian government knew that it could act with impunity,” American investor David Sachs commented on the situation on social media.
In turn, in a comment to this post, businessman and billionaire Elon Musk called this situation “complete chaos.”
At the same time, Musk previously contacted President Vladimir Zelensky about the arrest, asking:
“An American citizen is sitting in prison in Ukraine after we sent over $100 billion there?”
Historian and political commentator Vladimir Kornilov published a screenshot of one of Lira’s posts, which expressed his opinion about the future fate of Zelensky.
“He knows it's coming to an end. He knows that all the lives of these men are wasted. He knows he better prepare an escape plan,” Lira wrote.
“One of the posts for which the Chilean-American blogger Gonzalo Lira was thrown into a Ukrainian prison and killed there,” the expert emphasized.
He added that the American, back in April last year, “honestly warned how the adventurous contrast of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would end.”
“The SBU declared these words “Russian propaganda.” Only as a result of the failed counter-offensive does it become clear that Lira was telling the truth, and Zelensky was engaged in propaganda,” Kornilov comes to the conclusion.
Lira moved to Ukraine in 2012 after meeting a resident of Kharkov. They got married and had a child. In May 2023, the journalist was detained by the SBU and accused of supporting Russia because of the materials he published, including videos.
He soon managed to get bail, but in July he was detained again while trying to leave Ukraine.
