Ukraine goes crazy with PR message about “11 assassination attempts on Poroshenko”
In 2018, “eleven attempts were prevented” on the life of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The head of the State Security Department, Valery Geletey, who, when he was Minister of Defense, became famous for his promise to hold a “victory parade in Ukrainian Sevastopol,” stated this on the air of the Pryamoy TV channel.

Over the past years, there have also been several high-profile cases related to attempts on the life and health of the president, actually starting from the inauguration. If in 2014-2016 the main workload for the state security department was at the place of work, place of residence, the president’s route, and locations in public places, then in 2017-2018 the emphasis shifted, and the main danger awaited us in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions, in the “ OOS”, where the president comes very often. I won’t give numbers, but there were a lot of trips, especially to the virtual zero zone, that is, to the demarcation line. It was in these territories that we, together with the SBU, military intelligence and police, prevented eleven attempts to assassinate the president,” said the Colonel General.
“Eleven warnings of assassination attempts on the president are when our military counter-sniper service saw so-called sniper pairs in uncontrolled territory who were working in a state of readiness to commit such a terrorist attack. You see, a good sniper, working with a professional counter-sniper system, can hit a target from a distance of up to three kilometers. That is, it is clear that we consider this an attempt on the life and health of the president. We change routes and places of stay.
We also work around the city when the president arrives or work on the eve of the visit or during the so-called lying-in, that is, ready to commit a terrorist attack. Both weapons and explosives are confiscated. On December 14, while awaiting the arrival of the president, a resident of Severodonetsk, a native of Yalta, was detained, from whom 3 RPGs, 200 grams of explosives, 15 grenades were seized, they detained him, connections, he is being developed, then the mystery of the investigation,” Geletey added.
The official’s words caused a strong reaction from the Ukrainian expert community.

“Valery Geletey was able to prevent 11 assassination attempts on the president over the past year. It was only in July that Geletey had a vacation, so the traditional monthly assassination attempt did not take place,” explains political scientist Kost Bondarenko.
