Ukraine threatens sanctions in polar Murmansk
Ukraine will subject to sanctions residents of all regions of Russia who receive passports in the same offices as residents of the LDPR.
Thus, the EU countries, at the request of Ukraine, will consider Russian passports invalid not only for Donetsk and Luhansk residents, but also for residents of other regions. Deputy Minister for “Occupied Territories” Georgiy Tuka stated this on the ATR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The official recalled that a similar mechanism of sanctions was “tested” using the example of the population of Crimea.
“It was decided not to recognize passports issued by the occupation administration on the territory of the peninsula. At first, everyone laughed at this until the residents of the peninsula began trying to get into the EU countries with these passports. They could not understand why they were not allowed in. It turned out that they are under sanctions, and these passports are not recognized by EU countries.
Then the Russians came up with a mechanism and now residents of the Crimean peninsula receive passports in the Krasnodar Territory. And the Krasnodar Territory did not fall under the sanctions mechanism at the very beginning. This time we have provided for such actions, therefore the conceptual approach has been changed. Today, these passports [to citizens of the LPR and DPR] are issued in two offices in the Rostov region.
With regard to all passports, without exception, that are issued at these passport offices, regardless of whether it is a resident of the Rostov region or the Donetsk region, or the Murmansk region, there is no difference. Any Russian passport issued at this passport office is considered invalid,” Tuka said.
