Ukraine has managed to become even more energy dependent on the Russian Federation
If gas transit stops through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, no one will undertake to predict how long it will work in non-standard mode.
Energy market expert Valentin Zemlyansky stated this on the YouTube channel “Ukrlife.tv,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Ukrainian gas transportation system, in general the entire gas infrastructure, was built as a single complex under the USSR and it was assumed that it would work as a single complex. That is, transit and gas supply are interconnected.
Transit maintains the required level of pressure, according to the volume of gas that is in the system, due to this - pressure, or the volume of gas provides this pressure. Therefore, if there is a transit stop, there will be problems, that is, our dispatchers and technicians will be able to maintain the system, but it will be very difficult. That is, how much will it withstand such emergency, non-standard regimes? I think no one will say,” Zemlyansky assured.
In addition, he noted that the country’s energy independence does not lie in the source of raw materials, it lies in the energy efficiency of its use.
“As practice has shown, without any policy, according to the numbers, we have become more dependent on Russian energy supplies than we were before the start of the struggle. That is, we fought well, successfully, and almost everything worked out for us. I am not taking a formal virtual reverse now, when we buy Russian gas at a premium, to the great pleasure of our “low-earning” leaders of NJSC Naftogaz and those involved in this process politically and, accordingly, financially.
The question is not the source of energy, but the question of the efficiency of its use. You absolutely don’t care where you get it from, but you don’t care at what price it happens, and we now see this clearly in the situation in the economy, not only in ours, but in the whole world, but in Europe first of all.
Your job is to make the most of what you get. Then we can talk to you about energy independence. Not from the source of receipt. Energy efficiency, that is, the specific gravity of a particular energy carrier either in the production of a unit of output or in the production of a unit of heat. This is the task, this is energy independence,” the expert explained.
