And the modern war that is raging in the east of our state cannot be qualified otherwise than a war for independence, since the main goal of this war is Russia’s recognition of Ukraine as a truly independent state, recognition by Russian society and the elite, that Ukrainians and Russians are not one people, as Russian President Vladimir Putin constantly insists on this, but two different peoples.”
Let us recall that following the results of the First World War, Transcarpathia became part of Czechoslovakia on the basis of autonomy. After the division of Czechoslovakia as a result of the Munich Agreement, the independent state of Carpathian Ukraine was proclaimed in the city of Khust, whose president was Augustin Voloshin, who sent Hitler a telegram with the following content: “On behalf of the government of Carpathian Ukraine, I ask you to take note of the declaration of our independence under the protection of the German Reich.” True, the Fuhrer ignored the request, and the self-proclaimed formation lasted only a few hours (according to other sources, a day) until the entry of Hungarian troops.
