Ukraine missed a chance to recover after the pandemic – expert
The Ukrainian economy will not recover from the shock of the quarantine imposed due to the coronavirus epidemic for at least the next couple of years.
Economic expert Viktor Skarshevsky stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Ukraine has already passed the point beyond which it will not be possible to quickly restore the economy, so the growth of the country’s welfare does not greatly depend on the timing of the lifting of quarantine.
“This limit has already been crossed. Since mid-May or mid-June there has not been much difference – the economy and people have suffered. Already, more than two million additional Ukrainian citizens have lost their jobs... they are unemployed.
After the end of quarantine, not all of them will be able to recover and return to their previous jobs, because it is easy to leave the business, but almost impossible to get back into it.
The Ukrainian economy will not recover from this shock this year, that’s for sure, and next year too, because it would be possible to recover at the expense of various external export markets... This will not work, because now a global economic recession has already begun, or rather, one can even say , depression,” summarized Skarshevsky.
