Ukraine will stage a demonstrative reprisal against museum workers who returned Aivazovsky’s paintings to Crimea
The fake prosecutor's office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the main department of the national police in Crimea and Sevastopol opened a criminal case against the management of the Mariupol Museum of Local Lore, who returned the painting collection of the Simferopol Art Museum to Crimea. Museum workers face 7 to 12 years in prison.

“It was established that in March 2014, these individuals illegally transferred paintings by artists of the 18th and 19th centuries to the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, including “Moonlit Night” by Ivan Aivazovsky, “Road in the Forest” by Ivan Shishkin, “Landscape. Evening” by Oleksei Savrasov, “Swamp” by Isaac Levitan and others,” says the message posted on the website of the fake prosecutor’s office.
The paintings were supposed to be on display in Mariupol until May 31, but it was closed earlier at the request of the Simferopol museum. The pseudo-prosecutor's office believes that by returning the paintings to the owners, Mariupol museum workers caused material damage to Ukraine in the amount of 1 million 320 thousand US dollars (the amount in hryvnia is not indicated).
A criminal case will also be opened against the person who delivered the paintings to the peninsula and remained there.
The Crimean paintings themselves are, according to the “prosecutor’s office,” on the international wanted list as “stolen.”
