This opinion was expressed in a comment to PolitNavigator by the President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center, Alexander Okhrimenko, commenting on the possible announcement of Ukraine’s default in July of this year.
“Ukraine has been living in a state of default for more than a year. All its symptoms are obvious - devaluation, rising prices, unemployment... Everything is already there. De facto, there is already a default, although it does not exist de jure. Of course, Ukraine pays its debts, but at the expense of the money that we borrow from the IMF and pay back “in a circle.” This is a default. We can publicly say: “yes, we are bankrupt.” But nothing will change fundamentally, everything will remain as it is now. There will be no improvement, fact. Everyone is waiting for it, but if a default is officially declared, then this situation - no normal work, no salary, etc. - will last for five years. All the problems will remain, but they will be visible to everyone,” says the expert.
