Ukraine, Economics of Collapse

Official forecasts of an inflation rate of 7% in Ukraine in 2019 are a lie; in reality, food prices and tariffs will rise much faster.

Alexey Doroshenko, General Director of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers, stated this in a commentary to the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The (inflation) figure of 7% for 2019 looks quite dubious – i.e. understated... Products will grow at rates from 8% to 15-18%, and in households this is 50% of expenses.

Excise goods will increase by 25%.

As for utilities, which make up 20% of all expenses of Ukrainians, they will also increase by more than 20%. (Increasing public services is, among other things, our obligations to the IMF).

In addition, the costs of many companies are rising. As for products, some products will still be brought up to European levels – those that are still cheap here,” Doroshenko said.
