Ukraine is trapped in the Sea of Azov
Ukraine has not yet broken the “Great Treaty”, as well as the agreement with Russia, according to which the Sea of Azov is common to the two countries, since in these documents Moscow recognized the Ukrainian borders. Ukrainian military expert Igor Koziy stated this on Channel 5, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the current agreements signed by Ukraine during the presidency of Leonid Kuchma cannot be terminated.
“You need to approach it carefully, correctly and subtly. Guys, in two legislative documents that relate to the use of the Sea of Azov and regarding friendship and cooperation with the Russian Federation, there are border issues. If, God forbid, we withdraw or destroy this or that international document, then in fact we will thereby abandon our own border. This cannot be done. But this needs to be calculated ten times,” Koziy said.
Let us recall that Russian border guards have tightened the inspection regime for ships sailing to or from Mariupol and Berdyansk. Such measures were taken in response to Kiev’s seizure of the Crimean seiner Nord. Ukraine says its ports are suffering losses due to the naval blockade.
Deputy “Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Izet Gdanov proposed breaking all agreements with Russia on the common use of the Sea of Azov, so that Kyiv can announce the existence of a border and not allow Russian ships there, which now have the opportunity to unhindered passage throughout the entire water area.
