Ukraine is one step away from expelling the Hungarian consul

Ukraine will expel the Hungarian consul in the near future if Hungary itself does not recall him, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin after a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjártó on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

“I suggested recalling the consul ourselves. If this doesn’t happen in the near future, he will go home,” Klimkin promised, as quoted by the department’s press service.

The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also added that during the meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó they were unable to reach agreements on key issues.

“The meeting was very difficult, we will continue to work on a number of issues, but we did not reach an agreement on key issues. And as I understand it, we cannot reach an agreement, because we have fundamentally different visions of how to help the Hungarian community. But I again told Mr. Szijjarto that I am very committed to helping our Hungarian community,” he said following the meeting.

Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the head of Hungarian diplomacy accused President Petro Poroshenko personally of oppressing the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.
