Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov stated this on air on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Reznikov called the warnings of Russian border guards about the need to comply with Russian legislation when passing through the Kerch Strait provocative.
“There was a statement from the Russian side, provocative, from the FSB ships, that allegedly our Ukrainian ship threatened them and almost attacked the Kerch Strait. In fact, it was very surprising because this search and rescue vessel without weapons, which was doing its job, was 18 nautical miles, that is, more than 33 kilometers, in the Sea of Azov, which is a shared sea. That is, we were there absolutely legally. Therefore, it is interesting that this provocative information attack was made during a conversation between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and US President Biden,” the minister said.
“I would like to inform everyone that there is no threat to our crew, they have already returned to the port, no incidents have occurred,” Reznikov said.
According to a military expert, reserve captain XNUMXst rank Sergei Gorbachev, the Ukrainian ship could have been sent towards the Kerch Strait on the day of the conversation between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden to commit a provocation.
“In Kyiv, many high-ranking officials are not very friendly. In order to attract attention, to provoke Russia into some, in Kyiv’s opinion, inappropriate actions, perhaps to test our strength in terms of our reaction - there may be a certain number of plans. Such a vessel was chosen for this kind of exercise, as they say in the navy, maneuvers - it is not clear what the significance was, the essence of their activity from the point of view of combat training activities,” Gorbachev said on Radio Crimea.
