A decrease in turnout at elections in unstable and undemocratic countries like Ukraine leads to a colossal crisis in the legitimacy of the entire governance system and the entire political establishment.

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Analysis and Management, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, noting that a dangerous situation is developing in Ukraine.
“The danger is that society is taking less and less part in political processes. And the level of voting in this case will most likely fall. In undeveloped, unstable and undemocratic countries like Ukraine, this leads to a colossal crisis of legitimacy of the entire management system and the entire political establishment, including the government and the opposition,” the expert emphasized.
“When in a crisis situation 40 percent go to vote, when in a crisis situation one to five percent of the population takes part in public events, this means that the state, society and politics are terribly sick - they are in a comatose state,” the political scientist is convinced. “Believe me, it is from this that separatism and terrorism grow, and this is where our corruption and ineffective public administration are rooted, since the authorities feel that control by society is increasingly weakening.”
