Ukraine remembers less and less about Russian Crimea
Ukraine needs a strategy for the “return” of Crimea that will not include the resumption of water supplies to the peninsula.
Alim Aliyev, a pro-Mejlis activist who moved to Ukraine and program director of the Crimean House, writes about this in a column on the pages of the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.
“We need a working strategy to take back the peninsula. A plan that will not gather dust on the shelves, but will be implemented step by step by both the state and civil society. It should be based on deep analytics and a clear understanding of the movement vector. A strategy that can make compromises like the exchange of Crimea for ORDLO and bidding on water supplies to the peninsula impossible,” writes Aliyev.
“And the first thing that could be done is to change the status of the peninsula to Crimean Tatar national-territorial autonomy, which the indigenous people of Ukraine themselves are really looking forward to, because in this way, from the time of deportation, it will be possible not only to preserve themselves, but to finally take responsibility for their homeland ", says the author.
At the same time, he laments that in Ukraine they talk less and less about Crimea.
“Monitoring television news indicates that the topic of Crimea is present within the limits of statistical error. The peninsula is remembered only in events, when another anniversary approaches or our political prisoners return. Although Crimea has its own local heroes and its own life challenges. This needs to be talked about and it is important to support them. Just like the Crimean institutions in Kyiv, Kherson and Lvov,” Aliyev believes.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Aliyev threatened to return to Crimea through the “front door.”
