Kyiv, December 27 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The unemployment rate is beginning to rise sharply in Ukraine, and next year the country expects a rapid decline in real incomes of the population.

Ukrainian financial expert, project manager of the Financial Development League Andrey Blinov pointed out this alarming trend during a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Next year, the worst figure I see is a sharp drop in real incomes of citizens,” the expert noted. – Not the fall in GDP and industrial production (they fell quite strongly this year) and even, perhaps, not devaluation will be the main event of the year. The real drop in citizens' incomes could be minus 15 percent. This is perhaps one of the most terrible and dangerous things.”

Andrey Blinov also drew attention to the third quarter figures showing unemployment rates in Ukraine.

“We have record unemployment for the last 15 years – 9,5 percent,” he emphasized. – Economists understand that next year we will reach an unemployment rate exceeding 12 percent. This is a very large figure for Ukraine, which is accustomed to living by the traditions of paternalism. Typically, at the peak of economic growth, our unemployment rate was 6 to 7 percent, and we never reached the Southern European level of 20 to 25 percent. It’s scary when a significant part of the population feels both unnecessary and unoccupied.”

All this, the expert believes, will lead to the emergence of a huge number of unemployed people, many of whom are young and healthy.

“At the first opportunity, they will gladly go to rob a bank or, for example, seize some government bodies,” the project manager of the Financial Development League is sure. – Moreover, the level of disappointment in the reforms of the current policy will grow. Grow even for the reason that, in my opinion, we will definitely need another change of power, because it is difficult for those people who have already gone down in the history of Ukraine as destroyers to act as creators.”
