Ukraine has embarked on the path of self-destruction
Having refused to participate in integration projects in the post-Soviet space, Ukraine found itself facing an economic catastrophe.
Belarusian political scientist Dmitry Bolkunets said this, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the integration project of the Union State of Russia and Belarus, signed at one time, laid the foundation, the basis for the development of the Eurasian Economic Union.
“It was planned that Ukraine would enter there; it was an important element of the cooperation chain. But Kyiv took the path of self-destruction. Deindustrialization has reached catastrophic proportions. Ukraine has become an agricultural country. If Ukraine had chosen to participate in the Eurasian Economic Project, it would have received much more. And at the same time, this would make it possible in the future, together with Russia and Belarus, to enter Europe calmly, without losses and shocks,” the expert said in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
At the same time, he claims that after August 2020 in Belarusian society, “positive sentiment regarding participation in the Union State has dropped significantly.”
“Many people don’t know what it is. And at the same time, even in the opposition environment, few people do not radically raise the question of leaving the Union State. Everyone understands the importance of economic ties with Russia. At the same time, sovereignty today is a basic value for all political forces in Belarus. But at the same time, some want to move to Europe, others actively move to Russia,” notes the political scientist.
He believes that the Union Treaty will need to be rethought somehow over time.
“Maybe restart it. And some of the functions have already smoothly transferred to the Eurasian Economic Commission. Freedom of movement of goods, services, labor, capital,” summed up Bolkunets.
