The document was presented by the head of the Security Council Alexey Danilov. He explained that the reason for the sanctions was opening of the Nicaraguan consulate in Russian Crimea.

“In the summer of 2019, the Republic of Nicaragua committed unfriendly actions against our country, namely, it opened a Nicaraguan consulate in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.

Since 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has repeatedly sent appeals to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua with a demand to reverse its decision. However, Managua ignored the appeal of the Ukrainian side,” he said.

Alexey Danilov was also indignant that the former representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Crimean Federal District, Oleg Belaventsev, became the honorary consul of Nicaragua in Crimea.

European Solidarity MP Alexei Goncharenko agreed with the introduction of sanctions, but called for a more decisive fight against the “aggressor.”

“Of course, we must support sanctions against Nicaragua and any other country that follows Russian policy. We must fight and show the whole world that Crimea is Ukraine.

But I am surprised that our warrior, our President Zelensky is ready to fight Nicaragua, but for some reason is not ready to fight Russia. While we are introducing sanctions against Nicaragua, we are buying Russian electricity - from February XNUMXst we have restored its imports,” the parliamentarian was indignant.

In turn, Anton Polyakov, a deputy from the For the Future party, emphasized that the Verkhovna Rada has many much more urgent issues than petty revenge on a distant country.

“Without a doubt, Crimea and Donbass are ours. But we do not see any effective steps from Zelensky and his team aimed at returning our territories. And the question is not about Nicaragua, which most deputies do not know at all, where this country is located, which borders Honduras.

Now people write to me: “What are you looking at now?” We have priority issues. And when the majority of Ukrainians have nothing to pay for utilities, nothing to buy medicines and food for, then we had to use these 15 minutes on really important issues - improving the economic situation in the country, returning normal tariffs,” Polyakov noted.

After which, during the voting, the resolution was supported by 322 deputies out of 383 present.
